KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After posting strong results at the Wolverine Invite last weekend, the Western Michigan track and field team will head to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Butler Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20.
LAST TIME OUT
Competing at the Wolverine Invite, the Broncos finished the meet with a wealth of new records and personal-best marks/times.
Grace Johnson broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, while
Mabinty Kebe and
Sandra Ferrari each posted top-10 marks in the same event.
Soniya Jones was then able to post a top-10 time in the 60-meter dash to cap off a strong meet.
JOHNSON'S RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE
Grace Johnson was exceptional at the Wolverine Invite last Saturday, as she broke the program record in the 60-meter hurdles two different times. First, in the prelims, Johnson was able to qualify or the finals with a school record time of 8.45 seconds. That broke her previous school record of 8.48 seconds.
As one of the top seeds in the finals, Johnson shattered her previous record time by crossing the finish line in a time of 8.37 seconds. That mark is now 0.14 seconds better than the second best time in program history.
TRIO OF TOP-10 MARKS
Soniya Jones,
Mabinty Kebe and
Sandra Ferrari are all in their first season with Western Michigan and have already started to leave their mark on the program. During last week's Wolverine Invite, all three were able to enter the program's top-10 in various events.
Jones collected the fifth best 60-meter dash time in program history by collecting a time of 7.56 seconds. Along with Johnson's school record, the Broncos have seen six top-10 marks in school history through the team's first two meets of indoor season.
Bri'Yanna Robinson had a pair of top-10 throws in the team's opening meet at Grand Valley State.
PR PERFORMANCES
Along with the top-10 marks, the Broncos also saw a wealth of personal bests from other student-athletes last weekend.
