Women's Soccer Set for Rivalry Showdown at Central Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team will look to remain undefeated when it travels to Mount Pleasant to take on rival Central Michigan tomorrow night. The game is set for 7 p.m. at the CMU Soccer Complex.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan earned a 0-0 draw against Bowling Green last Sunday afternoon. The tie brought the Broncos to 1-0-1 in MAC play, which is good for second in the conference.

KEEPING IT CLEAN
The Broncos have done an excellent job defensively, headlined by goalkeeper Lauren Boafo leading the Mid-American Conference in shutouts with five. She has posted back-to-back shutouts to open MAC play.

Boafo has started all nine games so far this season, posting a 5-3-1 record, .89 goals against average and .704 save percentage. She is tied for the most wins in the conference and is second in goals against average.

A large part of that is the WMU defense. The Broncos' back line has allowed opponents to generate just 27 shots on goal, while only conceding 29 corner kicks.

TRANSFER TAKEOVER
Head coach Lewis Robinson utilized the transfer portal this offseason to supplement the young talent already on the roster, and it has worked in his favor so far this season.

Two of his three top scorers this season were not on the team a season ago in Indiana transfer Jen Blitchok and Madonna transfer Abby Werthman. Blitchok leads the team in goals (5) and points (11), while Werthman is tied for the team lead in assists (3) and second in goals (2) and points (7). Both Blitchok and Werthman have each earned one MAC Offensive Player of the Week Award this season.

SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
The all-time series has been tight, but Central Michigan holds a 16-15 edge on the Broncos, including a 7-6 advantage in Mount Pleasant. Over the last 10 matchups, neither team has an edge, with each squad taking five games.

Last week, CMU opened MAC play with a loss to Eastern Michigan before beating Miami a few days later. Jenna Little was all the offense during the opening week of conference play for the Chippewas, as she scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Miami.

Little leads the team in goals (4) and points (8) so far this season. Claudia Muessig has chipped in four points on two goals.

Another player to watch will be Lauren Walker, as eight of her nine shots have been on frame. She has one goal and two assists this season.

In net, Allison LaPoint has started six games, including both in conference play. She has a 2-2-2 record, 1.17 goals against average and .833 save percentage in six games this season.
