KALAMAZOO – Western Michigan freshman Ashton Adesoro was named MVP as the Broncos wrapped up hosting the 2023 WMU/Vredevelt Invitational at Sorensen Courts on Saturday.
Senior Jackson Boone and freshman Matej Kajzer were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Adesoro went undefeated in both doubles and singles action all weekend, finishing with a singles win over DePaul's Huck, 6-1, 6-0. Also picking up wins in the singles finals were Drew Evans, Alvin Altman, Boone and Kajzer. Evans earned a 6-3, 6-2 over Butler's William. Altman came back to beat Ibanez from Youngstown State 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6), while Boone also picked up a super-tie-breaker win with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) decision over Iaquinto from DePaul.
Adesoro won two doubles matches on the day, first with YSU's Rassat as his partner, defeating the pair of Gitschel and Iaquinto from the Blue Demons, 6-4. In the final round he teamed up with Altman to beat the same team 7-6 (7-4). Boone and Evans defeated Fouzas and Balci from YSU, 6-3, while Ferdinand Schlueter and Kazjer picked up a 6-1 win over Mandocescu and Anwar from DePaul.
The Broncos are off next weekend and resume action Oct. 6-8 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
