Women's Soccer Ready for Battle Against Wisconsin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team will look to remain undefeated when it welcomes Wisconsin to the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM. The Broncos are 3-0-0 overall with wins over Northern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Butler.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan continued its winning ways by claiming a victory over Butler on Aug. 27. The win moved the Broncos to 3-0 on the season.

The Broncos were outstanding defensively, allowing just three shots, including none in the first half. The Bulldogs ended the match with one shot on net.

Bria Telemaque scored the lone goal of the game, tipping a Butler pass to herself in the defensive end and taking it the length of the field before beating the keeper.

RED HOT START
Western Michigan has collected three straight wins to open the season, with wins over Northern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Butler. The squad posted shutout wins against NKU and Butler.

The last time the program opened a season with three straight wins came back in 2014. During that season, WMU won 13 games and made the championship of the MAC Tournament.

DEFENSIVE DOMINATION
The Broncos have been outstanding defensively in their opening three games of the season, thanks in large part to the back line.

Mira Pierre Webster and Brielle Gomez have played every minute for Western Michigan and Abby Baldridge is over 200 minutes on the season. In net, Lauren Boafo has started all three games, making seven saves.

In total, the Broncos have two shutouts and have allowed just one goal all season. WMU has allowed just 14 total shots and eight on goal. Boafo leads the conference in wins (3) and is second in shutouts (2).

SCOUTING THE BADGERS
WMU is 0-2 all-time against the Badgers, but this will be the first meeting in Kalamazoo. The last meeting between these two teams was back in 2015 when No. 14 Wisconsin upended the Broncos, 2-1.

Four different Badgers have scored goals this season, with Emma Jaskaniec leading the way with two. She has also chipped in two assists. Aryssa Mahrt, Ella Ottey and Riley Philbin each have one goal this season.

In net, Erin McKinney has been solid for Wisconsin. She's played in all five games, boasting a 0.40 goals against average and .917 save percentage. She also has four shutouts.
