Women's Soccer Concludes Non-Conference Schedule at Marquette

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team will conclude its non-conference schedule tomorrow night when the Broncos travel to Marquette. The game is set for 8 p.m. ET and can be seen on FloFC

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan fought valiantly against Michigan, coming up just short and eventually falling 3-2 on Sept. 10. WMU received goals from Abby Werthman and Reagan Wisser in the defeat.

WERTH IT
The Broncos dipped into the transfer portal prior to this season and picked up a bunch of players, including Abby Werthman from Madonna.

That move has proved to pay off early this season, as the senior forward was named the Mid-American Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12.

Werthman netted her first two goals of the season and helped the Broncos collect a 1-1 record in road games against Oakland (3-0 win) and Michigan (2-3, loss) this past week. In total, she recorded two goals, four points, eight shots and four shots on goal for the week.

LETTING IT FLY
Western Michigan has been strong offensively early in the season. Through six games, the Broncos lead the MAC in shots per game, having 16.17 per game, including a conference high 7.67 per game on net.
This has led to WMU being among the top scoring teams in the league. Western Michigan is tied atop the conference in goals per game at 1.67 and leads the MAC in assists per game with 1.67.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
The Broncos are 1-3 all-time versus Marquette, but the lone win did come away from Kalamazoo. WMU defeated the Golden Eagles in the College Cup back in 2013.

Marquette has struggled to score this season, posting only two goals in wins at Colorado and at Milwaukee. Josie Bieda and Caroline Cline are the two goal scorers for MU.

Assist wise, Kate Gibson, Julia O'Neill and Mia Haertle each have one. Defensively, MU has allowed 10 goals, but four of those came against Northwestern, which is ranked among the nation's top 25.

In net, Mikki Easter has played in six games, registering a 2-2-1 record, 1.30 goals against average and .788 save percentage.

Chloe Olson is another keeper for Marquette that has played in two games. She's  0-2-0 with a 1.88 goals against average and .625 save percentage.
