CLEVELAND – After earning her third straight MAC West Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday, senior outside hitter
Keona Salesman of the Western Michigan volleyball team has been named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week.
A Biomedical Sciences major who owns a 3.95 GPA, Salesman continued her hot start to the season by helping the Broncos win the Kennesaw State Invitational last weekend. For the tournament, the Coldwater, Mich., native racked up 52 kills (4.33/set) and 53.5 points (4.46/set) on a .339 hitting percentage.
Salesman opened the weekend with a career-high 23 kills in Friday's contest against Mississippi State. On Saturday, the senior picked up 12 kills while hitting .324 in a four-set victory over Wake Forest, WMU's first win over an ACC foe since 2014. She then concluded the weekend with 17 kills on a blistering .517 hitting percentage in a sweep of Kennesaw State on Sunday.
Salesman and the 9-1 Broncos close out non-conference play this weekend with a trip down to Bowling Green, Ky., for the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic. Western Michigan begins the tournament on Friday afternoon at 2 pm against ETSU.
