Know Before You Go: Waldo Stadium Game Day Updates

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - With the return of Western Michigan University students to campus and the start of classes, WMU Athletics is gearing up for another exciting year of football at Waldo Stadium under new head coach, Lance Taylor.

The Broncos are set to host St. Francis for a special edition of Thursday Night Lights, on August 31 at 7:00 pm.  It's Western Michigan's 31st installment of its annual CommUniverCity Night. Launched in 1992, CommUniverCity is a pre-game corporate tailgate event held at the Kanley Track & Field Complex prior to the game. The event brings together the Kalamazoo Community, Western Michigan University and the city of Kalamazoo. CommUniverCity opens at 4:00pm and runs till 6:30pm. Fans must have an official CommUniverCity badge and game ticket to enter.

GAME DAY SCHEDULE
 3:00 pm Tailgate Lots Open

All tailgate lots open at 3:00 pm. All lots are paid lots, except for the donor lots around Waldo Stadium. Fans parking in those lots must have an official donor parking pass.
 
Student Tailgate Lots are back in Lot 16 and 94 for the second year.
 
Parking is $10 cash per car in all paid lots.

A free shuttle bus will begin running at 3:30 pm. Fans looking to attend the CommUniverCity prior to the game, should park at Lawson Ice Arena to take the shuttle to CommUniverCity or the stadium. The shuttle will run after the game as well to return fans back to Lawson Arena.
 
** Please note, Lot 88 WILL NOT be available for game day parking on Thursday, August 31st due to business operational hours of the WMU Unified Clinic. **
 
4:20 pm Bronco Walk
Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the football team as they make their way to the stadium during the Bronco Walk. Cheer on the team as they walk from the New Student Center, down by student tailgate lots, to the Bronco Statue in front of Read Fieldhouse starting around 4:20pm.
 
5:30 pm Gates Open
All gates to Waldo Stadium open 90 minutes prior to kickoff. Fans who have digital tickets should remember to load tickets in their phone's digital wallet and have their phone charged and ready for ticket scanners upon entry.
 
6:40 pm Bronco Marching Band Pre-Game Show
 
7:00pm Kick Off

Clear Bag Policy
To ensure the safety of everyone in attendance at the games, Western Michigan will continue the security policy at Waldo Stadium of clear bags. Consistent with best practices as recommended by Department of Homeland Security, the size and type of bags allowed for entry will be regulated.

While fans may find it necessary to bring bags into Waldo Stadium the following guidelines apply:
  • Bags should be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" X 6" X 12" in size.
  • Clear bags may have a logo on one side so long as said logo does not exceed 4" X 3.4".
  • Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap that do not exceed 4.5" X 6.5" or approximately the size of a hand.
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag etc.).
  • Exceptions will be made for medical items or a diaper bag (with small child) needed after a proper inspection by security at the gate before entry.

Concessions
Kalamazoo Concessions will once again be the official concessionaire for all home WMU Athletic Events. Both cash and credit card payments will be accepted at all stands.
 
Alcohol Sales
Alcohol will be served at Waldo Stadium this year. To purchase, patrons must bring a valid government issued ID and receive WMU ID check wristband, which can be found at one of four ID check stations located on both sides of the stadium.
 
Fans can purchase beer, wine, and seltzer at designated concession stands throughout the stadium as well as the John Gill Club. Fan will have a variety of options, including Modelo, Miller Lite, Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Oberon, LaBatt, Michelob Ultra, Coors Lite, White Claw Black Cherry, Graham and Fisk Sparkling Moscato, and St. Joe Red Wine.
 
Alcohol sales will end at the start of the fourth quarter. Fans will not be allowed to leave the stadium with alcoholic beverages.

Bronco Marching Band Halftime Show and Fireworks
Fans are invited to stay in their seats for halftime as the Bronco Marching Band will perform. Additionally, there will be a fireworks show that will take place after the Marching Band performance.
 
Fan Text Hotline
On game days, fans can text 269-509-0062 for in-game assistance, issues & questions. Please include issue and location. In addition, those fans needing golf cart shuttle assistance from parking lots to stadium, should locate the Golf Cart Assistance A-frame sign and text the hotline number on the sign with shuttle stop location.
 
Game Day Programs
All game day programs are digital and can be accessed on most smart phones. Fan can access the official game day program via QR Codes posted around the stadium and on the video board.
