USA – This past Thursday, Soccer Wire released its updated top 50 men's college soccer programs in the nation for the 2023 season. This year, the Western Michigan men's soccer team was ranked 37th among the most prestigious programs in all of NCAA Division I men's soccer.
Soccer Wire's rankings were based on the last five seasons, excluding 2020's abbreviated Covid year. Factors deciphering the top 50 list included average position in the end-of-season rankings, final United Soccer Coaches Polls, and Rating Percentage Index (RPI) from each season. Additionally, bonuses were awarded to programs with NCAA Tournament qualifications and College Cup victories. One of the greatest measurements used in this year's rankings was RPI, which measures each team's performance weighted against their strength of schedule, with wins over quality opponents playing a key role. Utilizing RPI data across multiple seasons, Soccer Wire's top 50 rankings heavily reward programs that consistently produce a high number of quality wins from year-to-year.
Soccer Wire started as a Mid-Atlantic focused email newsletter titled Potomac Soccer Wire in December 2006, but quickly expanded to a national focus as our audience demanded. Today, Soccer Wire is a leader in covering news, educating readers, accelerating the college recruiting process, and maintaining a large public search directory that hundreds of thousands of people in the American youth and college soccer community rely on every month.
The men's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday, at 7:00 PM, in a road matchup against the Air Force Falcons.
