CLEVELAND, Ohio -- After the opening week of women's soccer action, the Mid-American Conference announced its first weekly awards this afternoon. Thanks to an impressive debut in the Brown and Gold, graduate student
Jen Blitchok earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Beginning on Aug. 17 at Northern Kentucky, the Broncos and Norse were tied late in the contest. Blitchok used some late game heroics to help WMU begin the season 1-0, netting the game-winning goal with just over five minutes to play in the game. She tallied four shots and three on net.
Just a few days later at Eastern Kentucky, Blitchok's lone shot on goal of the game proved to be a pivotal one. With the Broncos leading 1-0 late in the match, Blitchok blasted a shot past the keeper to pad the WMU lead. EKU would score moments later, but WMU would close out the game and move to 2-0 overall. Blitchok was credited for the game-winning goal for the second consecutive game.
Blitchok and the Broncos return to Kalamazoo for their first home game of the regular season on Aug. 27. WMU will host Butler, and tickets can be purchased
