Second-Half Surge Boosts Broncos to Win in Barcelona

BARCELONA - The Western Michigan men's basketball team used a second-half surge to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 90-70 win over the Cataluna All-Stars on Monday evening.

WMU boasted a balanced offensive attack for the evening, with six different Broncos scoring in double-figures. The trio of Anthony Crump, Markhi Strickland and Owen Lobsinger led the way for the Brown & Gold with 14 points apiece. JaVaughn Hannah and B. Artis White each chipped in 11 points, while Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro added 10.

Western Michigan led after the first quarter, 24-19, but the Catalans answered in the second period to take a 41-40 edge into the intermission. The Broncos regained control in the third quarter and were up 64-59 after 30 minutes. WMU then turned up the defensive intensity in the final period and outscored the hosts 26-11 in the fourth to earn the 20-point victory.

The Broncos conclude their foreign tour with a rematch against the Cataluna All-Stars on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm local time.
