MADRID - The Western Michigan men's basketball team opened up its 2023 foreign tour with a 97-83 loss to the Madrid All-Stars on Saturday evening at the Canal de Isabel II.
Newcomers
Anthony Crump and
Brandon Muntu led Western Michigan with 14 points apiece, while
B. Artis White (13) and
Owen Lobsinger (11) were also in double-figures for WMU. Nine different Broncos had at least five points in the contest.
Seth Hubbard snared a team-high eight rebounds for the evening, while Crump grabbed seven boards. White handed out a team-high five assists for Western Michigan.
Madrid got out to a double-digit lead in the first half, and held a 43-28 halftime advantage. The Broncos had the upper hand in the third quarter, owning a 30-22 edge in the period to move to within five, 63-58, heading into the final quarter. Western Michigan got as close as three, 70-67, in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but the hosts responded with a run to put the game beyond reach.Â
Next up for the Broncos is a pair of games against the Cataluna All-Stars on Monday and Tuesday in Barcelona. Both contests are scheduled for a 6:30 pm local time start.Â
