Ethen Frank Wins Calder Cup with Hershey Bears

Former Western Michigan winger Ethen Frank notched his first career professional championship, winning the AHL's Calder Cup last night with the Hershey Bears. Frank tallied two goals and two assists in the championships series.

The title gives Hershey its 12th in franchise history. Hershey trailed 2-0 in the series before winning three straight games to take a 3-2 lead. Coachella Valley would win game six, setting up a winner-take-all game seven. The Bears scored in overtime to secure the championship. Throughout the entire playoff run, Frank was able to post two goals and four assists, including one power play goal and one game winning goal. He finished the postseason with a +4 mark.

Overall, Frank had an impressive rookie season, finishing with 49 points on 30 goals and 19 assists. Among rookies, Frank's 30 goals topped the league and his 49 points were fourth best in the AHL. Additionally, he led the Bears in goals and finished third on the team in points in just 57 games.

He was also named an AHL All-Star where he broke the fastest skater record, posting a time of 12.915 seconds. No other competitor finished under 13 seconds. Frank signed a contract with the Washington Capitals for next season.
