AUSTIN, Texas -- Western Michigan hockey junior defenseman
Aidan Fulp has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American Second Team due to his success on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.
Academically, Fulp has maintained a 4.00 GPA in exercise science during his time with the Broncos. He is also a three-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete and has earned the team's scholar athlete award each of the last two seasons.
On the ice, Fulp served as the team's assistant captain for the 2022-23 season, where he totaled 15 points on two goals and 13 assists. Throughout his three-year career at WMU, Fulp totaled 97 games, tallying 38 points on four goals and 34 assists. He finished his junior season with career highs in points (15) assists (13), blocks (50), shots (53) and plus-minus (+9). He scored two goals during his sophomore and junior seasons. He was a one-time NCHC Defenseman of the Week honoree during the 2021-22 campaign and was a finalist for the NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year Award this season.
As an assistant captain, Fulp helped guide the Broncos to yet another 20-plus win season in 2022-23 and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. WMU won 23 games this season and Fulp was part of last year's team, which earned the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history. Over his three years with the program, Fulp's record with the team was 59-39-5 overall and 39-28-5 in NCHC play.
After the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Fulp signed a two-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) entry-level contract with the New York Islanders beginning with the 2023-24 season.
