KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Six Western Michigan football players have been named to Phil Steel's 2023 Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team.
Senior cornerback Keni-H Lovely, junior center Jacob Gideon, junior guard Addison West, junior defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, senior wide receiver Jehlani Galloway and junior punt returner Zahir Abdus-Salaam were all selected.
Lovely was the highest rated, landing on the Second Team. He led the Broncos with a career-high four interceptions last season, also making 47 total tackles.
Gideon, West and Kneeland were all selected to the Third Team. Gideon started and played in 10 games at center before suffering a season-ending injury. West played in and started all 12 games on the offensive line, helping former running back Sean Tyler reach 1,000 yards on the ground. Kneeland was third on the team in tackles for loss with 10.0, contributing 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries.
Galloway and Abdus-Salaam earned spots on the Fourth Team. Galloway was second on the team with 28 receptions and 344 yards. He averaged 12.29 yards per catch. Abdus-Salaam was WMU's primary punt returner, returning seven times for 32 yards and an average of 4.57.
