KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball program and head coach
Shane Clipfell are excited to announce the hiring of Peyton Booth as the program's new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
"We are thrilled to have Peyton join our staff and team," said Clipfell. "We wanted someone familiar with the MAC, someone who could recruit this region and who would bring energy and passion to the table every single day. Our athletic department as a whole emphasizes comprehensive excellence and that lines up very well with Peyton and many of the things she talked about in the hiring process. She stood out from the beginning of the search and we feel fortunate to have her here. She will take over the recruiting coordinator position for us as well as perimeter player development."
Booth joins the Broncos after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach on the Akron women's basketball staff. During her two seasons, she coached four Zips who earned All-MAC honors, including MAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Jordyn Dawson, who won the award in 2022.
"I am very excited to be joining the staff here at Western Michigan," said Booth. "I am very thankful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Shane and the rest of the staff. I have the utmost respect for how he runs his program and the kind of culture he has created here. I am thrilled and humbled to be joining the Bronco family and I can't wait to get to work!"
Prior to taking an assistant coach position at Akron, Booth spent two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, New Hampshire. While at UNH, her role involved coaching the Wildcats' guards in addition to an emphasis on scheduling, alumni relations, fundraising projects, and leading New Hampshire's team community service initiatives. During her time, she mentored senior guard Amanda Torres, who earned Second-Team American East All-Conference accolades, while freshman guard Adara Groman received America East All-Rookie team honors.
She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Akron for the 2018-19 campaign. In her first stint with the Zips, she was responsible for in-game statistics, assisted with practice set-up and drills, the recruitment and management of practice team members and managers, and assisted with recruit mailings and partnering with the marketing department to increase student body involvement at athletic events.
Booth played at and graduated from New Hampshire, playing four seasons for a total of 112 games and 31 starts. The Wildcats posted a 74-48 record during her four seasons, including a 45-18 ledger in her final two campaigns.
A native of Wadsworth, Ohio, Booth graduated from New Hampshire with a degree in communications and a minor in coaching in 2017 and a master's degree in sports administration from Akron in 2021.
