TAMPA, Fla. -- The nation's top-24 college hockey players were announced tonight during "Friday Night at the Frozen Four" in Tampa. Western Michigan forward
Jason Polin was named a Second Team All-American.
Polin becomes the 18th All-American selection in program history and the third under
Pat Ferschweiler during his two years as head coach.
Ronnie Attard and
Ethen Frank were named All-Americans last season.
Joining Polin on the West Second Team were Ryan Bischel (Goalie, Notre Dame), Mike Benning (Defenseman, Denver), Jake Livingston (Defenseman, Minnesota State), Carter Mazur (Forward, Denver) and Massimo Rizzo (Forward, Denver). Blake Pietila (Michigan Tech), Brock Faber (Minnesota), Luke Hughes (Michigan), Logan Cooley (Minnesota), Matthew Knies (Minnesota) and Adam Fantilli (Michigan) made up the West First Team.
In the east, Devon Levi (Northeastern), Lane Hutson (Boston University), Henry Thrun (Harvard), Sean Farrell (Harvard), Colin Graf (Quinnipiac) and Aidan McDonough (Northeastern) made up the first team, while Yaniv Perets (Quinnipiac), Sam Malinski (Cornell), Zach Metsa (Quinnipiac), Matt Brown (Boston University), Matthew Coronato (Harvard) and Alex Jefferies (Merrimack College) were second-team selections.
During his time at Western Michigan, he became the first Bronco to win NCHC Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, while becoming the third Bronco to be named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He was a First Team All-NCHC selection. Polin also concluded this season as the nation's leading goal scorer (30 goals), which marks the second consecutive year a Western Michigan player was at the top of that list (
Ethen Frank, 2021-22). It's the first time a WMU player has reached 30 or more goals in a season since 1993-94.
Polin was dominant in 2022-23, collecting 47 points, thanks to 30 goals (five hat tricks) and 17 assists. He became just the third player in the last five seasons to score 30 or more goals in a season. Additionally, he broke the NCHC record for single-season goals. The previous mark was held by Omaha's Josh Archibald, who scored 29 goals during the 2013-14 season.
Since the season has ended, Polin signed a contract with the Colorado Avalanche for the 2023-24 season. He is currently playing with the Colorado Eagles, where he has one point in three games.
