CARMEL, Ind. – Western Michigan freshman Megha Vallabhaneni sits just three shots off the lead and tied for fifth place after the opening round of IUPUI's Lady Jaguar Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Club on Saturday.
Vallabhaneni finished with a 73 (+1) and is in five-way tie for fifth. She had a round-best 15 pars on the day and finished with one birdie.
As a team, the Broncos sit tied for sixth with Detroit Mercy after combining for a 309 (+21). WMU is just one shot behind Cleveland State and Green Bay. Marian is in third at 304 (+16), with Eastern Michigan in second at 303 (+15). The host Jaguars lead the field after shooting a 297 (+9).
Senior Haley Barclay competed as an individual and shot a 75 (+3), tying her for 13th. Fresh off her best finish as a Bronco, graduate student Natalie Samdal shot a 76 (+4) and is in a seven-way tie for 15th. Alissa Fish shot an opening-round of 79 (+7), while Kailey White and Jenna Hayes both shot an 81 (+9).
The Broncos wrap up the regular season on Sunday with the final round.
