Polin and McAllister Named to NCHC All-Conference Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- With the regular season in the books, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced its end of season awards, including All-Rookie and All-Conference Teams. Senior Jason Polin and freshman Ryan McAllister were the WMU representatives recognized by the league Wednesday afternoon.

Polin earned First Team All-NCHC honors after an impressive regular season that saw him tie the conference scoring mark. His next goal will be the 30th of the season and put him atop the all-time conference scoring list. In conference play, Polin was dominant, racking up 17 goals and 12 assists. His 29 points were tied-for-second in the NCHC behind only Denver's Massimo Rizzo. His 17 goals were tied-for-first in league play.

In the last five years, only one player in the country has scored 30 or more goals in a single season. If Polin finishes the season with the NCHC goal lead, he will be the second consecutive Bronco to accomplish the feat, with Ethen Frank topping the league last year with 26 goals. He is also the national goal leader, having scored four more goals than the next highest player.

McAllister was named to a pair of teams, earning All-Rookie Team honors yesterday while being named to the Honorable Mention All-NCHC Team this afternoon. McAllister burst onto the scene early in his first season, leading the nation in points and assists midway through the season. He finished the regular season with 45 points on 11 goals and 34 assists. In conference play, McAllister had 24 points, with six goals and 18 assists. That points mark was tied-for-sixth in the conference and second among first-year players. Entering the postseason, McAllister is tied for the team lead in points with 45, alongside Polin. He leads the country in assists and is tied-for-seventh in points.

Polin, McAllister and the Broncos will look to keep their momentum going this weekend when they host Colorado College in the opening round of the NCHC Tournament. The winner of the best-of-three series will head to St. Paul, Minn. for the Frozen Faceoff at Xcel Energy Center. Western Michigan made it to the championship game in last year's tournament. Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lawson Arena, while Saturday's game will have a 6 p.m. puck drop. If Sunday is needed, the game will begin at 6 p.m.
