KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team heads to New York for three matches in three days, beginning with clash with Buffalo on Friday at 10 a.m.
The Broncos (9-6, 5-0 MAC) then head to No. 29 Cornell on Saturday for a match at 1 p.m. and wrap up the weekend with a match against Binghamton on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Western Michigan completed its first trip through the Mid-American Conference with an unblemished record, winning all five matches. Other than a 7-0 sweep against the Bearcats, the Broncos have been tested in nearly every conference match. Last week, WMU went on the road and snapped Northern Illinois' eight-match home winning streak with a 4-3 win. The Broncos also have a 4-3 win at Toledo and a pair of 5-2 wins over the Bulls and Ball State. Sophomore Anton Arzhankin and junior Jackson Boon are both undefeated in conference play, posting 5-0 records. Arzhankin and Fynn Lohse has been WMU's top doubles team in conference play, posting a 3-1 record so far.
The Bulls are 2-3 in conference play, with wins over Binghamton and Ball State.
The Big Red are 12-3 on the season, boasting wins over No. 30 Oklahoma State and No. 60 Penn State. Cornell and Western Michigan meet for the second-straight season. The Broncos made the stop in Ithaca between matches against Buffalo and Binghamton last season, falling to the Big Red 5-1.
Binghamton is still searching for its first MAC win of the season and hosts Northern Illinois on Friday before welcoming Western Michigan on Sunday.
WMU returns to Kalamazoo to close out the regular season with three-straight home matches, beginning next week with Ball State on Friday and Toledo on Sunday.
