KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Following the conclusion of the Western Michigan hockey season, forward
Cole Gallant has signed a contract with Trois-Rivières out of the ECHL. Trois-Rivières is an affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, and Gallant will wear No. 9 for the Lions.
The Dover, Fla. native was exceptional in his five years with the Broncos, playing in 160 games. During that time he tallied 96 points on 27 goals and 69 assists. In his final two years with the program, Gallant played his best hockey, scoring 15 goals, while dishing out 35 assists. This past season, Gallant was an assistant captain for the Broncos.
As a leader for the program, Gallant played his best hockey during WMU's playoff push when the team won 11 of 12 games during the middle portion of the season. In that 12-game stretch, Gallant posted 15 points on three goals and 12 assists. He had two goals against Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Invitational and notched three assists in a 6-1 victory over Omaha.
Gallant was also an excellent student, as he was a four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference selection. His leadership throughout his career helped take the Western Michigan program to new heights, especially during his final two years on campus. In his five seasons, the Broncos were able to collect a record of 98-67-11. Over the last two seasons, Western Michigan has been a force, posting back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and reaching the NCAA Tournament in both years. Furthermore, Gallant was part of Western Michigan's first ever NCAA Tournament victory, which came in 2021-22 against Northeastern.
"My time at Western was nothing short of amazing and there was nothing better than playing there and in front of the best fans in college hockey," Gallant said. "Playing at WMU helped shape me into the player I am today and playing for our great coaching staff helped prepare me to succeed at the next level."
Gallant joins
Max Sasson as Broncos that have signed professional contracts so far this offseason.
