Broncos Open MAC Play at BGSU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan softball team hits the road for its first three-game series of Mid-American Conference play on March 28-29 against the Falcons of Bowling Green.  First pitch is Tuesday at 3 pm, followed by a doubleheader on Wednesday at 1 pm and 3 pm. The WMU versus BGSU series will be available via BG Falcon Media and live stats. 
 
BOWLING GREEN (8-18 Overall, 1-5 MAC) 
Sophie Weber is a top-performing hitter on the BGSU team with a batting average of .379. She has started in 22 out of 23 games and leads the team in hits, doubles, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Weber's 0.31 doubles per game rank fifth in the MAC. Respectively, Peyton Dolejs and Makailah Dees are batting .273 and .263. Delaney Davis bats an average of .262 and leads the Falcons with 11 walks and 14 runs scored. Davis ranks third in the MAC for sacrifice bunts per game at 0.17.
 
Hannah Davies leads BG pitchers in innings pitched, appearances, complete games, and strikeouts this season, with a team-high of 47.2 innings and 12 appearances. She currently holds a 5.43 ERA. Scarlet Anderson has been a vital asset to the team's success this season, with a 5-3 record and an impressive 3.66 ERA in 44.0 innings pitched. She is also tied with Davies for the team lead in appearances and complete games, having started eight games in total. Anderson has allowed opponents to hit .266 against her.
 
BGSU's overall performance this season has seen them score a total of 91 runs while allowing 133 runs to their opponents. While the team has utilized six pitchers, five of them have struggled, allowing opponents to hit between .266 to .302.
 
WESTERN MICHIGAN (6-12 Overall, 0-0 MAC) 
The Western Michigan softball team has been putting up some impressive numbers this season. Through 18 games played, they have maintained a solid .255 batting average. With 57 runs scored and 114 hits to their credit, the Broncos have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with. In addition, their 24 doubles, six home runs, and 47 RBIs are further testament to their offensive prowess. 
 
Addison Hudson leads the Broncos, ranks second in the MAC, and 21st nationally with a .457 batting average. Her on-base percentage ranks fourth in the MAC at .479 and 103rd nationally. Courtney Farrish has been a dominant force for Western Michigan with nine doubles to lead the MAC and rank second in the nation at .50 doubles per game. She also ranks fifth in the MAC with a .640 slugging percentage.
 
In WMU's last game, Payton Kelly went a perfect 3-for-3 for the Broncos on Friday afternoon at Purdue Fort Wayne. The three hits equaled Kelly's career-high and marked her second three-hit game of the season.
 
Senior Autumn Godwin came out of the WMU bullpen on Friday and shut down Purdue Fort Wayne's offense, limiting the Mastodons to two hits and three baserunners over 4.1 scoreless innings of work. Of the 13 outs the senior recorded, a season-high six of them came via the strikeout.
 
ON DECK
Following the midweek series, Western Michigan prepares to host Miami University (OH) for its Home Opening Weekend on April 1-2 at Ebert Field. The Broncos face the RedHawks in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1, at 1 pm and 3 pm. A single game on Sunday, April 2, at noon, will cap the series between WMU and the RedHawks.
