HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the opening round of the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford College at Moss Creek Golf Club, on Friday.
The Broncos combined to shoot a 327 (+39) and sit tied for 10th in the 19-team field with Presbyterian. WMU is just 10 strokes out of the top four. UNC Asheville leads the tournament after shooting a 311 (+23).
Individually, senior Alissa Fish and freshman Megha Vallabhaneni both shot an 80 (+8) and sit tied for 24th. Only three strokes separate fourth place and 24th place, with five golfers shooting a 77. Freshman Jenna Hayes is just two strokes behind Fish and Vallabhaneni with an 82 (+10). Haley Barclay shot an 85, while Natalie Samdal wrapped up WMU's top five with a 92. Fish had a team-high 11 pars in the round, while Vallabhaneni had two birdies to lead the squad.
