KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan hockey team stayed hot this past weekend in Duluth, grabbing a pair of games from the Bulldogs. The Broncos won 3-2 in overtime on Friday before leaving town with a 4-1 victory on Saturday. The squad has now won nine of its last 10 games and sits in second place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
In both the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, WMU checked in at No. 9 this week. The Broncos were able to leap over Harvard with the Crimson falling to Quinnipiac over the weekend. Four teams from the NCHC are ranked inside the nation's top 20 in each poll. Denver, St. Cloud State and WMU are among the top 10. Omaha is No. 16 in both polls.
Western Michigan is off this weekend, but the Broncos will return to action on Feb. 17-18 when they host Colorado College. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m., with Saturday's contest beginning at 6 p.m. WMU will then have its final home series of the regular season the following weekend against Denver.
