LAVAL, Quebec -- After being selected for their incredible efforts on the ice so far this season, three former Broncos are set to compete in the AHL All-Star Classic over the next two days.
Ethen Frank,
Ronnie Attard and
Brandon Bussi will showcase their talent during the skills competition on Feb. 5 before representing the Atlantic Division in the Mise-o-jeu AHL All-Star Challenge the following day. The skills challenge is set for 6:00 p.m., while the All-Star Challenge will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Frank has been outstanding during his rookie campaign this year, totaling 21 goals and 16 assist through 38 games. That is tied for the most goals among rookies and tied for fifth among all skaters. The Hershey Bears forward has burst onto the scene, including winning AHL Rookie of the Month honors in January. Frank and the Bears are tied atop the Atlantic Division with the Providence Bruins.
Bussi is another name to watch out for, as he will be making his first AHL All-Star appearance. He leads all rookie goaltenders in goals against average with a mark of 2.19. His 14 wins are second among rookie goaltenders, but he's only played in 20 games. The rookie leader has taken the ice 28 times. Overall, Bussi's GAA is third best in the league and his 14 wins rank among the top 10 despite his lack of game action compared to his counterparts. His play has helped the Providence Bruins stay tied atop the Atlantic Division standings.
Attard was a late add to the AHL All-Star festivities, but he's more than earned his spot. Another rookie making his first All-Star appearance, the defenseman has posted seven goals and 12 assists in 43 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season. His 19 points rank fifth among rookie defenseman this season. His play has been a big reason why the Phantoms are in the mix with the top teams in the Atlantic Division. Lehigh Valley is two points out of fourth place and five points behind third.
The AHL All-Star festivities are free to watch on AHL TV. An email is needed to sign up, but the skills competition and All-Star Challenge will be streamed at no cost.
