ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team opened its indoor season with a strong showing at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday, including some top-10 marks in school history.
In the invite portion of the shot put event,
BriYanna Robinson was strong, notching third place with a throw of 14.78 meters. That was good for fourth in program history. Robinson followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw after posting a distance of 17.67 meters. That throw puts her ninth in program history in that event.
In the other shot put event,
Kennedy Hagens and
Lane Hagens flexed their muscles. Lane finished first with a throw of 12.91 meters, while Kennedy notched fourth with a mark of 12.46 meters. The sisters also competed in the weight throw, with Kennedy earning a throw of 13.89 meters and Lane collecting a throw of 13.70 meters.
Mariah Sackett made her college debut and recorded a throw of 11.62 meters.
Laurie-Ann Desormes made her Bronco debut and participated in a variety of events. One of them was the 200m dash, where she posted a time of 26.05.
Kashyra Oliver was also making her WMU debut, and she posted a time of 27.70 in the event.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Claira Gilchrist was able to nab eighth place with a time of 9.46. She also made her debut in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.38 meters.
Sandra Ferrari was also making her college debut, as she placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.47 meters.
Mimi Joseph and
Layla Wallace also competed in the long jump, posting distances of 5.34 meters and 5.33 meters, respectively. Wallace also took part in the triple jump to cap off her college debut, collecting a mark of 11.16 meters.
UP NEXT
The Broncos will take a break before their next meet, as WMU won't be back in action until after the new year. Western Michigan will compete again on Jan. 13 at the Wolverine Invite, hosted by Michigan.
