AUSTIN, Texas -- Graduate student
Jen Blitchok was named to the 2023 Women's Soccer College Sports Communicators Academic All-American Team, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. The all-time list of 40,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators, Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels.
Blitchok earned CSC Second Team All-American honors and joins 32 others on the list. She was one of nine forwards who garnered Academic All-American status and just one of 12 selections to have a perfect 4.0 GPA. Blitchok is the first Bronco to earn Academic All-American honors since Alex Ruffer in 2017.
The graduate student forward completed her undergraduate degree in economics with a perfect 4.0 GPA and is now pursuing a graduate degree in accounting. In addition to her All-American status, she was selected to the CSC Academic All District Team earlier this year.
She wasn't just great in the classroom, however, as Blitchok led the Broncos in nearly every statistical category this season. Her performance helped lead the program to its first ever regular season MAC Championship, and the Broncos became just the fifth team to secure an undefeated MAC regular season record. In 19 games, the veteran forward had 24 points on nine goals and six assists. She led the team in points, goals, assists, shots on goal and game-winning goals.
Her dominant 2023 campaign puts her among the program's best ever players, as she entered the WMU record book in several categories. She broke program the record for most game-winning goals in a season (5) and tied for the third most goals (9) and points (24) in a season.
Blitchok was dominant in conference play as well, tallying six of her nine goals and five of her six assists against MAC foes. In 11 games, she was first in the league in shots (38), tied-for-first in assists (5), third in points (17) and tied-for-fifth in goals (6). Blitchok has announced her intentions to return next season for her final year of eligibility.
