ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Valley Conference announced that forward
Dylan Sing was named the MVC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Sing headlined a group of 23 student-athletes named to the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer scholar-athlete first and second teams, announced by the league office today. Sing's teammate
Charlie Sharp received first team honors, while
Jonathan Robinson and
Ethan Brandt claimed second team honors for the Broncos Wednesday. All of WMU's members on MVC's academic teams earned a GPA higher than a 3.6 this season.
With a 3.99 grade point average majoring in Integrated Supply Management, Sing received a first-team selection on the scholar-athlete team in addition to his MVC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
Sharp, majoring in Computer Information Systems, joined Sing on the first team after earning a GPA of 3.73 this season.
Representing Western Michigan on MVC's second team were Robinson and Brandt. Robinson is majoring in Recreation Sport Management, while Brandt is majoring in Aviation Flight Science.
Teammates Sing, Sharp, and Robinson, follow up on last year's Academic All-MAC (Mid American Conference) honors. To qualify for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete needed at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and to have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests.
The 23 member first and second teams featured student-athletes from six different countries, representing England, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Spain, and the United States.
The Valley's scholar-athlete teams are voted on by the league's soccer sports information directors. The criteria for the All-MVC honor parallels the CSC (College Sports Communicators) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
