Volleyball Hits the Road for Pair Against MAC East Foes

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team takes its 4-0 MAC record on the road this weekend for a pair of matches against East Division foes. The Broncos visit Kent State on Thursday evening and Ohio on Friday night.

THE FIRST SERVE
Following back-to-back straight-set wins over Bowling Green, Western Michigan heads back out on the road to face MAC East foes Kent State and Ohio. The Broncos enter the weekend 4-0 in league play for the second time in the last three years. 

LAST TIME OUT
WMU is coming off of back-to-back straight-set wins over Bowling Green last weekend at University Arena. The Western Michigan attack had a prolific series, as it averaged 15.00 kills/set on a .281 hitting percentage in the two wins. 

FOCUS ON THE FLASHES
Kent State enters the week looking for its first MAC win of the 2023 season. KSU's Mackenzie McGuire sits atop the conference in kills/set (4.00) and is second in points/set (4.29). 

OHIO OUTLOOK
Ohio split at Buffalo last week and is third in the MAC East at 3-2. OU's Caitlin O'Farrell is among the league leaders in hitting percentage (.325, 5th), kills/set (3.40, 7th) and points/set (3.99, 5th).

SERIES HISTORY
Western Michigan is 41-16 in the all-time series against Kent State. The Broncos have won four in a row in the series, including a four-set win last year in Kent, which was WMU's first road win in the series since 2012. Western Michigan is 35-26-1 all-time against Ohio. The Bobcats have won back-to-back meetings, including a four-set victory over the Broncos last season in Athens. 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK SWEEP
For the third time this season, Western Michigan swept the MAC West Player of the Week awards. Logan Case collected her fifth Setter of the Week honor, Andelyn Simkins her third Defensive Player of the Week award, and Maggie King became the second different Bronco to be named the Offensive Player of the Week in 2023. 

SETTING THE TABLE
Fueled by Case's 11.44 assists/set, which is second in the nation, the WMU offense is the MAC leader in assists/set (12.96, 13th nationally) and kills/set (13.93, 18th nationally). The Broncos boast two of the top-six in the league in kills/set in Maggie King (3.54, 4th) and Keona Salesman (3.45, 6th).
