CLEVELAND – For the fourth time in 2023, the Western Michigan volleyball team has swept the MAC West Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday. WMU's
Logan Case was named Setter of the Week,
Keona Salesman earned Offensive Player of the Week and
Andelyn Simkins was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Case picked up her eighth MAC Setter of the Week award after handing out 108 assists (13.50/set) to help the Western Michigan offense hit .311 in a pair of victories over Buffalo and Akron last week. The senior opened the week with 55 assists, one shy of her season high, setting up three different Broncos for double-digit kills as WMU hit .307 in the four-set win over Buffalo. Case followed that up on Saturday with a 53-assist performance to again help three teammates tally double-digit kills and post a .314 team hitting percentage in the victory over Akron. For the season, Case is the NCAA Division I leader in total assists (1,036) and is third in the nation in assists/set (11.77).
Salesman was named Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this year after recording double-digit kills in both Bronco wins last week, totaling 34 (4.25/set) while hitting .316. The senior tallied 17 kills on a .310 hitting percentage in Friday's victory over Buffalo, including back-to-back kills to close out the second set, which helped WMU even the contest at one set apiece. Salesman then notched 17 more kills on a .324 hitting percentage in Saturday's win over Akron.
Simkins racked up 52 digs (6.50/set) and posted a .919 reception percentage (34-for-37) to earn her fifth Defensive Player of the Week award of 2023. The senior had 26 digs in the victory over Buffalo and became the seventh player in program history to surpass 1,500 career digs. She followed that up with 26 digs again the next day against Akron, added a career-high 10 assists for her first double-double of the season, and went a perfect 19-for-19 on serve receive.
