YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team matched its program record for a 54-hole low score of 883 as the Broncos finished in third place at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club on Tuesday.
WMU combined to shoot a 292 and finish +19, five shots ahead of fourth-place Eastern Michigan. Oakland claimed the team championship at 872 (+8), with Bowling Green finishing in second place at 875 (+11). The Broncos finished ahead of other MAC counterparts Ohio, Akron and Central Michigan.
Individually, two WMU golfers finished in the top 10. Graduate student Natalie Samdal was Western Michigan's top finisher for the third time this season, finishing her tournament off with a 72 for a 54-hole score of 218 (+2). Samdal finished just one stroke outside the top five. Sophomore Jenna Hayes tied for eight place after finishing with a 221 (+5), shooting a 73 in the final round. Sophomore Megha Vallabhanemi was just three strokes behind her at 224 (+8) and was tied for 14th. Graduate student Alissa Fish finished one stroke behind Vallabhaneni after wrapping up the tournament with a 74. Freshman Macy Beeson rounded out the field for the Broncos with a 231 (+15).
The Broncos return to action Oct. 16-17 at the Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
