ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up the opening two days of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regionals at the University of Michigan on Friday.
Senior Jackson Boone picked up two wins in the Singles Qualifying Draw to advance to Saturday's Main Draw. Boone opened Thursday's action with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) victory over William Rassat from Youngstown State. He then defeated Illinois State's Emiliano Gonzalez 6-3, 6-4. Boone will take on Illinois' Kenta Miyoshi on Saturday afternoon.
Also competing in the Qualifying Draw was freshmen Ashton Adesoro and Matej Kajzer. Kajzer earned a 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10) win over Marquette's Blake Roegner in the opening round but fell to ISU's Adrian Dibildox 6-1, 6-4. Adesoro dropped his opening match to Northern Illinois' Iker Gaztambide Arrastia 6-1, 7-5.
Friday's action featured the Broncos in doubles action. Senior Benjamin George and junior Anton Arzhankin were the lone pair to pick up a win, defeating Jasper Schaadt and Jan Jauch from Marquette, 8-2. The duo then fell to JJ Tracy and Alexander Bernard from Ohio State, 8-2, in the second round.
Arzhankin, Boone and George resume singles action on Saturday.
