WMU Earns Third Sweep of Weekly Volleyball Awards

CLEVELAND – For the third time this season, the Western Michigan volleyball team has swept the MAC West Division Player of the Week awards, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. WMU's Logan Case claimed the Setter of the Week award, Maggie King earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor and Andelyn Simkins was named the Defensive Player of the Week.  
 
Case collected her fifth Setter of the Week award of the season after helping set up the WMU offense with 73 assists (12.17/set) for a combined .281 hitting percentage in back-to-back straight-set wins over Bowling Green. The senior also added 12 digs (2.00/set) and four blocks (0.67/set) to her weekend stat line. On Thursday, Case registered 36 assists as Western Michigan hit .271, and followed that up on Friday with 37 assists to help the Broncos hit .292 for the evening.
 
Through the weekend's matches, Case ranks second in the nation in at 11.44 assists per set and sixth in total assists with 652.
 
King put down double-digit kills in both wins over Bowling Green. The graduate student collected 25 kills (4.17/set) and 29.0 points (4.83/set) while hitting .316 against the Falcons. She put down 13 kills while hitting .333 and added a career-high tying five blocks in the series opener against BGSU, and then followed that up with 12 more kills on a .296 hitting percentage the following night.
 
Simkins earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in 2023 after extending her streak of double-digit digs to 11 in a row over the weekend. The senior totaled 29 digs (4.83/set) and posted a .955 reception percentage (21-of-22) in the two wins over Bowling Green. Simkins opened the series with 16 digs and by going 8-for-8 on serve receive, and followed that up with 13 digs, seven assists (one shy of her career high) and by going 13-for-14 (.929) on serve receive.
 
The Broncos take their 4-0 conference record on the road this week for a pair of matches against East Division foes. WMU's trip begins on Thursday night at Kent State. First serve is set for 6 pm on ESPN+.
