DAYTON, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's golf team finished up the Fall Season on a strong note, climbing four spots in the final round to finish third overall at the Flyer Invitational on Tuesday.
The Broncos combined to shoot a 296 for a 54-hole total of 894 (+54), finishing third in the field of 11 teams. WMU finished just five strokes behind Butler, with the University of Indianapolis winning the tournament with an 873 (+33). WMU's 296 was the seventh sub-300 round this season and just the second time it has had two sub-300 rounds in a single tournament.
Sophomore Megha Vallabhaneni was the Broncos' top finisher, shooting a 222 (+12) after a final round of 74. Classmate Jenna Hayes was just one stroke behind her after shooting a 73 for a 223 (+13). Graduate student Natalie Samdal finished with a 226 (+16), while Alissa Fish had a 228 (+18). Freshman Macy Beeson rounded out WMU's top five with a 230 (+20). WMU's group finished within eight strokes of each other.
The Broncos are now off until Feb. 11, when they head out to Utah for the Zupas Trailblazer Invitational, hosted by Utah Tech.
