Broncos Continue Homestand Thursday Against Miami

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team will continue its homestand on Thursday afternoon against Miami. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex. 

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a draw against Ohio on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos tied the game in the final minutes, thanks to a Jenna Blackburn's second goal of the season.  

SHOOTERS SHOOT
The Broncos have not been shy about firing shots toward the net this season, as they currently lead the MAC in total shots and shots per game. 

Entering Thursday's contest, the Broncos have 204 shots on goal and average just under 16 per game. The 204 shots is 22 more than the next highest team. 

Four Broncos are over 20 shots this season, with Jen Blitchok leading the way at 39. Jenna Blackburn has fired 33 shots this season. Abby Werthman and Reagan Wisser are tied for third on the team with 22 shots. 

TRANSFER TAKEOVER
The Broncos went out and picked up Jen Blitchok and Abby Werthman from the transfer portal this offseason, and it has paid off in a big way for both parties. 

The Broncos remain undefeated in conference play, thanks in large part to the duo's ability up top. On the season, Blitchok has five goals and four assists, while Werthman has chipped in four goals and four assists. 

Blitchok transferred from Indiana, while Werthman comes from Madonna. The two lead the team in points  and are also top-seven in the MAC in that category. Blitchok has 14 points in 13 games, while Werthman has 12 points. 

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
In the all-time series, Miami holds the edge, 16-9-2. The Red Hawks also hold the advantage in Kalamazoo, boasting a 6-5-2 record. However, the Broncos are 6-4 over the last 10 meetings against Miami. 

Miami has struggled to open MAC play, holding a 1-5 league record. The Red Hawks have a win against Kent State, but have dropped matches to Ball State, Central Michigan, Buffalo, Bowling Green and Northern Illinois. 

Taylor Hamlett and Haley Anspach are the ones to watch for Miami, as they each have five or more points this season. Hamlett leads the team with three goals and one assist, while Anspach has recorded two goals and an assist in 14 games. 

In net, Dominique Popa is 3-8-1 overall with a 1.48 goals against average and .712 save percentage.
