KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After a series split with Omaha this past weekend, the Western Michigan hockey team was able to retain its top-10 ranking in this weeks national polls. The Broncos posted a 6-1 victory on Friday night before being upended 2-0 in Saturday's finale.
In both the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, the Broncos checked in at No. 10 this week. That is a one spot drop from a week ago, as Harvard was able to leapfrog over WMU. NCHC wise, three teams appeared in the top 10, with Denver (No. 4), St. Cloud State (No. 5) and Western (No. 10) representing the conference. Omaha appeared in both polls this week, coming in at No. 16 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and No. 19 in the DCU/USCHO.com poll. North Dakota and Minnesota Duluth were receiving votes in both polls.
WMU will be back on the road again this weekend against unranked Minnesota Duluth. Duluth has won three consecutive contests, while the Broncos have won seven of their last eight. Friday's game will begin at 8:30 p.m., while Saturday's game will start at 7:00 p.m. Friday's contest will be on CBS Sports Network, with Saturday's game on NCHC.tv. Both games can be heard on the Bronco Radio Network.
