CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior outside hitter
Maggie King has earned a weekly award from the Mid-American Conference for the second consecutive week, as she was named MAC West Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
King followed up her Offensive Player of the Week performance from last week with another outstanding weekend, as she helped Western Michigan pick up a pair of wins over Buffalo to begin conference play 2-0. The Cincinnati native began the weekend by notching seven kills on seven swings in the first set of Friday's series opener against the Bulls. For the contest, King racked up 14 kills with just one error on 25 attempts for a .520 hitting percentage as WMU won 3-0. The next day, the senior again led the Bronco attack with 17 kills while hitting .282 in another 3-0 victory.
For the week, King totaled 31 kills (5.17/set) on a .375 hitting percentage to extend her streak of double-digit kills to nine matches in a row. She also added three service aces (0.50/set) and 14 digs (2.33/set).
Following the weekend, King leads the conference in total kills (191), kills/set (3.82), total points (220.5) and points/set (4.41) this season. The senior also ranks third in the MAC in service aces (24) and second in aces/set (0.48).
Western Michigan begins a three-match road swing on Tuesday evening as it visits Northern Illinois. First serve in DeKalb, Ill., between the Broncos and Huskies is slated for 7 pm.
