SCHERERVILLE, Ind. – After one round the Western Michigan golf team sits just four shots off the lead in third place at the Briar Ridge Invitational, hosted by Illinois-Chicago, at the Briar Ridge Country Club on Sunday.
WMU continued its strong team play from last week's tournament, turning in a combined score of 304 (+16), just one stroke behind second-place Green Bay and four behind leaders Morehead State. The Broncos sit tied with UIC.
Individually, senior
Alissa Fish and freshman
Megha Vallabhaneni led the way for Western Michigan. Both shot 74's (+2) and sit tied for sixth place, but just three shots out of first. UIC's Megan Tang, Cleveland State's Mandie Ruminski and Green Bay's Isabelle Maleki are tied at the top with 71's (-1). Fish finished with 12 pars and two birdies on the day, while Vallabhaneni had 13 and two.
Sophomore
Ally Barth, junior
Haley Barclay and freshman
Jenna Hayes (competing as an individual) all shot 78's (+6) and are tied for 21st.
Natalie Samdal is just one stroke behind the group, while
Madeline Blum shot an 83 (+11) and
Kailey White shot an 85 (+13) as individuals.
