Golf Heads to Cardinal Classic

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team heads to Ball State for the annual Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic on Monday and Tuesday at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.

The Broncos take part in the 54-hole competition along with the host Cardinals, IUPUI, Ohio, Western Illinois, Oakland, Loyola Chicago, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Purdue Fort Wayne, Valparaiso and Dayton. The course measures to 6,139 yards and is a par. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.

WMU is coming off a bye week after opening the season at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational, hosted by Central Michigan. Western Michigan placed two golfers in the top 10 with Alissa Fish taking seventh and Natalie Samdal tying for 10th place. As a team, the Broncos took third place with a combined score of 910, an all-time low under third-year head coach Kim Moore.

The Broncos will be without Fish at Ball State.

The Cardinal Classic is a staple on WMU's schedule. The team's most recent best finish came in 2016, when the team finished in third place. Last season the Broncos settled for ninth.

Next up for Western Michigan is the Briar Ridge Invitational on Sept. 25-26 at Briar Ridge Country Club in Schererville, Ind., hosted by Illinois-Chicago.
