KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan junior right-handed pitcher
Easton Sikorski has been selected in the 17th round, 513th overall, by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.
Sikorski becomes the 10th Bronco to be selected in the MLB Draft during the tenure of head coach
Billy Gernon, and the 114th all-time selection from WMU. It marks the second consecutive year in which a Bronco has been drafted, as outfielder
Blake Dunn was also taken by Cincinnati in the 15th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
A native of Fraser, Mich., Sikorski has been pitching this summer with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the MLB Draft League. The right-hander has made the most of his opportunity in Williamsport, posting a 2.05 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 22.0 innings of work. He owns a 1.00 WHIP and has limited opponents to a .235 batting average.
Heading into the 2022 campaign, Sikorski was listed as the sixth-best prospect in the Mid-American Conference by
D1 Baseball, but was limited to just seven appearances, including five starts, for the Broncos this spring due to injury. The junior recorded a 2-1 mark with a 5.16 ERA in 22.2 innings and totaled 15 strikeouts.
Sikorski saved his best outing of the season for last, throwing a two-hit, seven-inning complete game for Western Michigan during the final series of the season at Ohio. In that outing, he retired the first 20 Bobcat hitters he faced, before a seeing-eye single made its way up the middle to break up his bid for a perfect game.
In his four seasons with the Broncos, Sikorski sported a 4.52 ERA in 127.1 innings. The righty earned 10 wins, tossed three complete games and totaled 112 strikeouts.
