WMU Baseball Picks Up Slugger AJ Lucas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan baseball team and head coach Billy Gernon have announced the signing of transfer outfielder AJ Lucas. Lucas joins 14 student-athletes already signed to the program who are set to arrive at WMU in the fall of 2026 and begin suiting up for the Broncos for the 2027 season.

Lucas is headed to Kalamazoo from Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Mo., where he is coming off of a record-setting sophomore season. The outfielder hit .411 and set single-season school records for home runs (19), RBIs (60) and stolen bases (20) on the way to being named the NJCAA DII Region 16 Player of the Year and a First Team All-Region selection, while also earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

As a freshman at Moberly, Lucas was a Second Team All-Region selection after hitting .365 with seven homers, 15 doubles, 55 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He finished his time with the Greyhounds as the school's record-holder for career home runs and RBIs.

Prior to Moberly, Lucas starred at Bellevue East High School in Bellevue, Neb., where he tied the school records for single-season doubles, triples and runs scored. He was a Second Team Super State selection and a First Team All-Class A honoree.
