Worrad Wins Scoring Award as Fiedler was Named Rookie of the Year

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey program continues to roll out its 2021-22 team awards with sophomore defenseman Cedric Fiedler earning the Ed Edwards Most Improved Player Award and senior forward Drew Worrad earning Vic Vanderberg Leading Scoring Award.

Fiedler played in all 39 games, logging heavy minutes with his defensive partner Michael Joyaux. He tallied eight assists and blocked 28 shots after appearing in just 15 games during his freshman campaign.

Worrad had a career-best season with 45 points on nine goals and 36 assists to lead the Broncos in scoring. Many of his assists went to linemate Ethen Frank, who led the nation with 26 goals. He was named a Second Team All-NCHC selection, earning conference honors for the first time in his career, and ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game.

On Thursday the Broncos will announce the Peter R. Ellis Academic Award winner along with the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year.
