COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association and Western Michigan women's basketball announced this week that sophomore guard
Gabi Saxman is the 2021-22 recipient of the university's selection for All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year!
The award recognizes those collegiate and high school athletes whose athletic accomplishments reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning. Recognition is given to one male and one female athlete from each university per year, and is chosen by WMU Strength and Conditioning Coach
Tim Herrmann.
During the presentation to Saxman, Coach Herrmann emphasized the selectiveness with which he chooses to present this award: "I don't give this out every year, it is not something I want to pad my career numbers with by being able to say I had this many All-Americans."
Saxman played in all 30 games for the Broncos this season, and had a career night in November, setting a new WMU women's basketball record with 11 steals in a single game, as well as 15 points, six assists, and a pair of rebounds. Her 11 steals are also tied for the most by any player in a single game across the NCAA for the entire season. Congratulations to Gabi on earning the honor!
