COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time in program history two student-athletes from the Western Michigan Hockey team have earned First Team All-National Collegiate Hockey Conference Honors, with Ronnie Attard and Ethen Frank being honored and Drew Worrad earning a selection on the second team.
The three combine honors are also a program best, while senior defenseman Michael Joyaux earned Honorable Mention. Only conference stats are considered by the coaches and media when voting. Western Michigan was the lone team to have two selections on the first team.
Attard finished with 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists, helping the Broncos finish third overall and reach a program-best 14 wins in NCHC play. Overall, Attard leads in the conference in scoring amongst blue-liners with 32 points and is second in the nation. He also has a team-best plus/minus of +15 this season. The Philadelphia Flyers' draft pick is the only repeat selection from last year's All-NCHC First Team.
Frank is both the nation's leading goal scorer with 25 and was first in NCHC contests with 16. The fifth-year senior was twice named the NCHC Forward of the Week during the season and earned NCHC Player of the Month honors for November. He finished NCHC play with 23 total points.
Worrad finished tied for second in the NCHC scoring with 25 points on 21 assists and four goals. His assist tally was second-most in the conference, and he has posted 40 points overall. It is the first NCHC honors for the Birr, Ontario native.
Joyaux finished conference play with 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists and was a three-time NCHC Defenseman of the Week.
WMU hosts Omaha this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) in the NCHC Quarterfinals. All game times are set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets. All games will also be streamed live on NCHC.tv and on the Bronco Media Network.
