CLEVELAND – Western Michigan junior guard
Lamar Norman Jr. has been selected to the All-MAC Third Team, the league office announced as part of its annual postseason awards release on Wednesday.
Norman led the Mid-American Conference in scoring at 19.8 points per game, and bumped his total to 20.8 points per contest in conference play. The junior netted double-digit points in 28 of the 30 games he played in, including a 24-game double-digit scoring streak that spanned from mid-November to late February. Norman was the only player in the league to post four games of 30+ points, and had 20 or more points 15 times, second-most in the conference. He led the Broncos in scoring 25 times this season.
The Grand Rapids, Mich., native made a single-season Western Michigan program record 101 three-pointers, 24 more than the second-highest total in the MAC. His average of 3.4 made three-pointers per game led the conference and is tied for ninth nationally.
In addition to his scoring exploits, Norman averaged 3.1 rebounds per contest, led Western Michigan in assists (54) and tied for the team lead with 25 steals.
Norman's top performance of the season came in a win at Eastern Michigan on March 1. In that contest, the junior netted a career-high 35 points, 24 in the second half, on 13-of-20 shooting and 8-of-12 from three-point range. His eight three-pointers in the victory over the Eagles were one shy of tying the single-game program of nine, set by Levi Rost at Buffalo on Dec. 4, 2004.
