Bussi and Joyaux Earn NCHC Player of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan hockey's Brandon Bussi and Michael Joyaux capped off the regular season earning Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Bussi was named Bauer NCHC Co-Goalie of the Week for his performance in WMU's sweep of Miami and Joyaux was named Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week.

Bussi made 24 saves in Friday's 5-3 win over Miami. On Saturday he made 32 saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season, tying for the second-most in a single season in program history. On Saturday he made 18 of his 32 saves in the third period.  For the weekend he had a goals against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .952.

 

Joyaux had three points in Western Michigan's sweep of the RedHawks, scoring a goal and adding two assists. In Friday's 5-3 win he scored WMU's second goal to tie it up at 2-2. On Saturday he tallied two assists in the 3-0 shutout of Miami. He directly set up WMU's first goal of the night, having a shot redirected into the net by Drew Worrad. He then had the second assist on the third goal of the night. Joyaux also finished +2 on the weekend, earning a plus in each game.

 

WMU hosts Omaha this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) in the NCHC Quarterfinals. All game times are set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets. All games will also be streamed live on NCHC.tv and on the Bronco Media Network.
