KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The 74th-ranked Western Michigan men's tennis team welcomes Buffalo and Binghamton for its final pair of home matches of the regular season on Friday and Sunday at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos host the Bulls on Friday with a projected start time of 2 p.m., depending on the ending of the WMU women's tennis match earlier in the morning. The Bearcats come to town on Sunday for an 11 a.m. first serve.
KEEP ON ROLLING
With a home victory over Northern Illinois last Saturday, the Broncos have extended their MAC winning streak to 33 matches. WMU has rattled off three-straight 7-0 victories in conference play, adding wins at Buffalo and Binghamton. The Broncos have not dropped a point in MAC play since a 5-2 victory over Toledo back on March 13.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
Buffalo has struggled this season, going 2-11 overall and a 1-4 record in MAC play. UB opened conference play with a 6-1 win over Binghamton but have not won since, losing to WMU, NIU, Toledo and Ball State. Friday's match against the Broncos will be their third straight on the road.
Cheng Tang leads the Bulls with 12 wins in singles play, and has a 2-1 record at No. 1 and a 3-6 record at No. 2. Simon Wibler has also seen action at No. 1, with a 2-7 record and a 0-2 record at No. 2. Finn McNamara and Greg Hastings are 9-2 in doubles play, with an 8-1 record at No. 3 and a 1-1 record at No. 2.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton is still searching for its first MAC win, heading into the weekend with an 0-5 record and 1-15 overall. BU plays at Northern Illinois on Friday before traveling to Kalamazoo on Sunday.
Sophomore Shourya Verma is 7-7 in dual-match singles play, all at No. 1. Sophomore Kyle Weeks has the second-most dual match wins with five, going 3-4 at No. 2 and 2-5 at No. 3. Dan Pergel and Verma are 4-4 overall in doubles, including a 2-1 mark in MAC play. The duo have played five matches at No. 1, going 2-3.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Western Michigan heads on the road for the remainder of the regular season, traveling to Ball State and Toledo next Friday and Saturday before wrapping up the schedule on April 16 at Northern Illinois. The Broncos then return home to host the 2022 MAC Tournament Championship April 23-24.
