GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Western Michigan hockey senior forward Drew Worrad has signed a contract with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins for the remainder of the 2021-22 season and 2022-23.
Worrad leaves the Broncos after four seasons, appearing in 129 career games with 25 goals and 70 assists for 95 points. The Birr, Ontario, native led WMU in scoring this year with 45 points on a team-high 36 assists and nine goals, helping the team to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the program's first NCAA win. He earned Second Team All-National Collegiate Hockey Conference honors and was named the NCHC's Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
"We are very proud of Drew earning this opportunity," said head coach Pat Ferschweiler. "He has worked and continued to improve every year here at Western. Drew is skilled, smart and competitive, which should make him a very good player at the next level. We wish Drew all the best as he starts his professional career."
Worrad also leaves WMU as a four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference selection and a four-time NCHC Scholar Athlete.
