Golf Opens Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Monday Morning

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team resumes its season on Monday and Tuesday at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge at Royal Lakes Golf Course in Bradenton, Fla.

The Broncos enter the tournament as the No. 10 seed in the field of 12 teams, nine of which are from the Mid-American Conference. Also joining the field is Morehead State, Illinois State and Western Illinois.

WMU opens the tournament against Toledo, the seventh seed, on Monday morning beginning at 7:50 a.m. If the Broncos are victorious they will play the second-seeded Northern Illinois Huskies in the afternoon. Should the Rockets win, Western Michigan will take on the loser of the Bowling Green and WIU match.

This is WMU's lone match play tournament this season, but the Mid-American Match Play Challenge has been a long staple of the team's schedule. In the Broncos' last appearance in 2020 the team took second place, falling to Florida Gulf Coast in the championship match.
