Men's Tennis Hosts Undefeated Michigan State on Saturday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team hosts state rival Michigan State on Saturday at 3 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club.

Admission is free but spectators must wear masks.

ANOTHER ONE
The Mid-American Conference has been handing out weekly awards for just two weeks and the Broncos have earned one each week so far. After Peter Kuszynski was named MAC Men's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week after WMU's match against Michigan, the duo of senior Fynn Lohse and Arjun Honnappa were named MAC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week.

The pair completed in one doubles match at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, a thrilling 7-6 (7-5) win over the 30th-ranked team of David Stevenson and Jeremy Taylor from Memphis. The win helped the Broncos secure the doubles point in their match with the Tigers.

THE LAST ONE
The match against the Spartans is the last non-conference home contest for Western Michigan. The Broncos finish off non-conference play with road matches at Notre Dame, at Drake and against Wichita State at Drake, and at Wisconsin.

WMU's next home match will be its MAC opener against Ball State on Friday at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State enters Saturday's match with a perfect 6-0 in dual match play, with all six victories coming at home. Three of MSU's matches have been 7-0 wins, with the team having two tight 4-3 contests with Toledo and Virginia Tech.

Luke Bayliss is a team-best 4-0 in dual matches, playing at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 so far this season. Anthony Pero is 3-0, with a 2-0 record at No. 1. The duos of Max Sheldon and Carson Gates and Josh Portnoy and Josh Mukherjee are both 3-0 in doubles play in dual matches.

ON THE HORIZON
WMU is off next week before heading to Notre Dame on Friday, Feb. 18 to take on the Fighting Irish at 5 p.m.
