RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Western Michigan golf team had its best round of the weekend, shooting a 306 to shoot up two spots and finish tied for 14th as it wrapped up hosting the Rio Verde Invitational at Rio Verde Country Club's White Wing Course on Sunday.
The Broncos finished with a 54-hole total of 939 (+75), tying with Loyola (Ill.). Kennesaw State, coached by WMU Golf alum Erin Thorne, claimed the team championship with an 865 (+1). KSU's Caitlyn Campbell was the individual medalist, finishing with a 211 (-5). Campbell, KSU's Alizee Vidal, Abby Cavaiani from Missouri State, Avalon Woodward from Illinois State and Kara Carter from Xavier were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Senior Brooke Gibbons' was Western Michigan's top finisher, finishing the tournament with her best round of the weekend with a 76. Gibbons finished in a five-way tie for 47th with a total score of 234 (+18). Senior Cameryn Lucia, competing as an individual, finished right behind Gibbons with a 235 (+19). Imogen Courtney, Allisa Fish and Ally Barth all finished with a 237 (+21), while senior Fiona Khaing rounded out WMU's five competitors with a 247 (+31).
Western Michigan returns to action on March 7-8 at Butler University for the Don Benbow Collegiate.
